Through the looking glass – Blue Sky

Last Night was the Blue Sky group show featuring Spring 12/13 collections from Alexandra Owen, Salasai & Juliette Hogan and as per usual it really was not an event to be missed. My personal favourite collection of the night was Alexandra Owens (and not just because I was there shooting for her) but I will talk about the garments in a soon to come post. So right now lets talk beauty, as one would expect there were three main looks for the night (all executed exquisitely by mac), a Val Garland-esque graphic liner (Alexandra Owen), a tropical orange eye which rose above the brow (Salasai) and a soft natural face (Juliette Hogan), lips were fairly understated all around. Now lets talk about this graphic liner trend New Zealand has been working, we saw it at New Zealand Fashion Week back in september in its extreme form at Jimmy D and then we saw a more wearable version at New Zealand Fashion Festival in febuary this year. What I really love about what M.A.C has been doing with graphic liner is that they have effectively been taking the ideals of a graphic liner Legend like Val Garland (Collaborations include Lady Gaga – reigning queen of graphic liner IMHO) and transform it into something almost any woman could wear, its still edgy and its still different but its totally wearable and I love that. More backstage photos from the Blue Sky show after the jump.

A little preview of Alexandra Owens box shoulders, if I was a woman I would be saving my pennies for at least one of the jackets in this collection
